The January transfer window always comes around quick. Although it seems it couldn’t come quick enough for Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone.
With Manchester United courting Antoine Griezmann and a constant cloud over Yannick Carrasco’s future, it would appear Diego Simeone is planning for their departure already.
Announcing earlier this week the green light on Antoine Griezmann’s desire to explore new avenues, Simeone has taken an interest in an unexpected replacement.
Ex Newcastle and now Marseille midfielder Florian Thauvin is hot on the list of players in line to succeed Atletico’s top goal scorer. Finding superb form so far this season in Ligue 1 netting 8 goals. The versatile Frenchman could be the perfect replacement, being only 24 and boasting a similar playing style to Griezmann.
This transfer however may not be as easy as some would believe. Florian Thauvin’s Ligue 1 form has also caught the unlikely attention of German giants Bayern Munchen. Looking also to freshen their side with youth, Jüpp Heynckes is looking to the Frenchman to succeed the likes of Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben who are not getting any younger.
It is unclear how much the French club would be willing to settle for but it won’t be cheap.
