The San Mames will host the Basque Derby between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad on Saturday.
Bilbao picked up their win since October last Sunday when they beat Levante 2-1 in a tight encounter, and will be hoping to continue their rise up the table as they currently sit in a rather disappointing 14th place.
Things haven’t been as good for the San Sebastian side, who are without a win since beating Eibar early November, although they sit mid-table, in tenth.
Last season, Bilbao got the better of their Basque neighbours on both occasions, thanks to goals from Inaki Williams, Aritz Aduriz, Raul Garcia and Iker Muniain.
Bilbao will be without Muniain or Benat due to injury and Yeray Alvarez continues his recovery from testicular cancer.
Sociedad will be without the Portuguese Kevin Rodrigues or the Spaniard Agirretxe.
Although they’e been relatively tight at the back, conceding only 19 goals this season, goals have been hard to come by for Los Leones as they’e only found the net 16 times. Once again, they’ll have to rely on Aduriz to provide the goal threat and maybe use William’s pace to their advantage.
Real Sociedad have been fairly prolific in front of goal, scoring on 28 occasions but defensively have been quite leaky, conceding 28.
If Bilbao use Iñaki well and keep Aduriz in the game, rather than him finding himself isolated, then they will be a threat to a “dodgy-at-the-back” Sociedad in a fixture that has favoured them in the past.
