Real Sociedad boss Eusebio Sacristan has asked his players to give more following the 0-0 draw with Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon.
Heading into the game on Saturday, it was fair to say that both Athletic and La Real were on equal terms, having had similar starts to the league season.
The San Mames hosted the first Basque derby of the season and it was Sociedad who dominated possession and looked the more likely to score.
A point, however, was all both sides could muster and it leaves Eusebio with a bitter taste in his mouth, having seen his side push for an opener.
“Overall, I was happy with the match,” he told reporters.
“We wanted to play a good game and be up for the task, the players have been very focused and we have managed to dominate Athletic in large periods, but we want more and we cannot settle for this point.
“Athletic have been comfortable in defence during the second half, and if we can work on some attacking elements, then I am convinced that our game will grow.
“The results show that we have to improve, but the good thing is that we have a clear idea.”
The next Basque derby will be in April when Sociedad host Athletic at the Anoeta. The 0-0 draw was the first since 2015 and ends Athletic’s run of two successive derby wins over Eusebio’s side.
Sociedad’s next test will be a tough one, as they host Sevilla, who will be disappointed following their 0-0 home draw against Levante.
Meanwhile, Athletic next travel to Seville, to face Quique Setien’s Real Betis side, who are currently sat in 14th, on exactly the same number of points as Bilbao, although Los Verdiblancos are still to play this weekend, they travel to Malaga on Monday.
