Sime Vrsaljko is expected to remain at Atletico Madrid past the January transfer window, despite interest from Italian clubs.
Having arrived in the Spanish capital last season in a £14m deal from Italian club Sassuolo – the Croatian full-back made his presence known, replacing the experienced Spaniard Juanfran at right back.
However, a knee problem saw him end last season on the sidelines and the form of Juanfran has seen him fail to get back into Diego Simeone’s starting eleven.
Napoli, who are currently leading the Serie A standings believe the defender is a perfect fit, whilst Arsenal have also shown interest from England.
Atleti have been quick in their desire to keep the full-back at the Wanda Metropolitano past January and it is now confirmed that he will be staying on for a little while longer.
However, Atletico chief Andrea Berta has told Radio CRC that the defender will remain at the club at least until next summer.
Plus, a report in Il Mattino states a bid of €22m was rejected by the Spanish club from Napoli earlier this week.
Vrsaljko spent a season on loan with Italian side Genoa before moving to Sassuolo and then Atleti
With the news, Atleti will now look to sell two or three players, a move which they must make after being eliminated from the Champions League earlier this month.
