Spanish international boss Julen Lopetegui is remaining cautious ahead of his side’s World Cup Qualifier with Macedonia on Sunday evening in Skopje.
A 2-2 draw with Colombia in Murcia during the week gave Lopetegui some question marks ahead of Sunday’s tie with Macedonia and the former Porto boss is not taking his opposing side lightly with his pre-match comments.
“What matters is our effort, the pitch is what it is. We’re only focused on what’s under our control,”he said to the press.
“Macedonia? We expect a game different to the one in Granada. They’re very clear on how to attack and defend.
“They deserved to beat Italy, but we’re only concerned about our own game.
“We really want to start the game now. The players are charged up to the fullest.
“It’s too powerful an objective to think of anything other than this match.
“Not an important game? I’m not worried about what’s being said.
“I’m delighted with the commitment of the players and the level they’ve showed in every game so far, and Macedonia will demand the maximum of us.”
A win for Spain would give them a firm hold on Group G, although Italy are currently level on 13 points with La Roja.
