Villarreal moved up to 6th place with a 1-0 against Valencia in the Derbi de La Comunitat at the Mestalla.
Carlos Bacca scored the only goal of the game in the first half on 24 minutes after a nice pass from Pablo Fornals.
The game was entertaining from the outset with both teams attacking providing an end to end game.
However it was the visitors who took the lead when Carlos Bacca found himself one on one with Neto thanks to Pablo Fornals’ perfect through ball.
The Colombian composed himself as he squared up with the keeper, wrapping his foot around the ball at the last second to find the back of the net.
The hosts made things harder for themselves when Simone Zaza picked up two yellow cards in two minutes, the second for a late kick on Cedric Bakambu and was sent off.
Los Che did however have a lot of the second half play as they pressed forward in search of an equaliser but the Yellow Submarine were a constant threat on the counter.
Valencia’s chances were boosted eight minutes from time when Manuel Trigueros was also sent off for two yellows meaning both sides would finish the game with 10 men.
Valencia were unable to find a goal however and Villarreal are now just two points behind fifth placed Sevilla. The hosts on the other hand remain third and are now two points off Atletico Madrid and 11 behind Barcelona.
