European giants on red alert as Carrasco allowed to leave

Yannick Carrasco is almost certain to leave Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window, according to Madrid based newspaper AS.

After failing to qualify for the knock out stages of the Champions League, it is believed that Diego Simeone will be looking to offload a number of his team at the midway point of the season, and the 24 year old Belgian is the latest name rumoured to be on his way out of the club.

Atleti have only managed to score 25 goals in the league so far this season, 20 less than current leaders Barcelona. Carrasco has only started five times for Los Colchoneros, completing a full 90 minutes twice and finding the net on three occasions, compared to the 10 he scored around the same time last year.

As well as missing out on a regular starting place for the side, the imminent arrivals of Diego Costa and Vitolo will put further risk on the winger getting game time.

It is also known that Simeone has been unhappy with Carrasco’s attitude towards fellow players and staff over the past year, following a fall out with team mates Koke and Gabi, as well as squaring up to fitness coach Óscar Ortega at the end of last season.

With former La Liga players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s  contracts nearing expiration, Arsenal are one club rumoured to have an interest in Atleti’s number 10.

Fellow London side Chelsea and Bundesliga title holders Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the player.
