Good Morning, Happy New Year and welcome to our brief round up of the Spanish Papers for Tuesday 2nd January 2018.
Madrid based media Marca have opened the new year with an updated report on Real Madrid’s interest in Kepa, whom they are expected to sign within the next few days.
A deal worth around 20m euros was expected shortly after the Club World Cup victory in December, but injury to the youngster stalled a move from Athletic Club.
Whilst Athletic have been keen to keep hold of their prized asset, Madrid’s interest has never softened and a deal is now expected to take shape as the Spanish international returns to fitness.
A last little note with Marca is Julen Lopetegui’s comments on Diego Costa, who after missing six months of football is back with Atletico Madrid and hoping to gain a place in Spain’s World Cup squad for Russia later this summer.
Moving over to Catalonia and as you expect the main focus is on Philippe Coutinho, whose claimed move to Barcelona never seems to be going away.
There report comes after Nike confirmed the deal through their official club shop and the Brazilian was left out of Liverpool’s squad on New Years Day against Burnley.
The English club, who claimed the former Espanyol man had an injury – are now seemingly resigned to losing the midfielder.
Sport also discuss the moves of Costa and Vitolo to Atletico Madrid, saying those two signings alone could see them push Barca for the La Liga title.
Mundo Deportivo to no surprise, discuss Coutinho – saying that a deal is complete and that he will be presented after the game against Levante at the weekend.
