Paco Jemez will take to the dugout in La Liga for the first time since leaving Granada in 2016 when his Las Palmas side host seventh placed Eibar on Saturday evening.
The Spaniard moved back to Spain last month to take over at bottom of the table Las Palmas and took charge of The Yellows for the first time on Wednesday night in their 1-1 draw in the Copa del Rey against Valencia. His first league game will also take place at home as his side look to end their run of three La Liga games without a win.
New signing Gabriel Penalba is in the squad for the game but Alex Galvez will have to wait for his league debut with the loanee ineligible against parent club Eibar.
Visitors Eibar ended 2017 with a 4-1 win at home to Girona and have had a longer rest than the hosts having not played in the Copa in midweek. That win at the Ipurua lifted Los Armeros up to seventh just three points behind Villarreal.
Jemez hasn’t hid the fact that Loic Remy and Oussama Tannane don’t have a future at the club with him in charge and both players have been omitted from his squad with Alberto Aquilani also not in the 18.
Eibar manager José Luis Mendilibar has no new injury concerns but Bebe, Ivan Ramis and Cristian Rivera all join the long term absentees in sitting this one out but new signings Fabian Orellana and Pape Diop are in the squad and expected to play a part at some point.
In last year’s two meetings in the league, the home side won both games with Las Palmas 1-0 victors in Gran Canaria and Eibar 3-1 in the Basque country. They also met in two legs of the Copa del Rey with Las Palmas winning both ties 3-2.
