Celta Vigo have signed Slovakian left-back Robert Mazan on a four-year deal from MSK Zilina.
The transfer means the Galician club have beaten Portuguese champions Benfica to acquire the 23-year-old.
Details of a fee are yet to be confirmed.
Mazan has played well over a hundred games in the Slovakian first division, and also has experience of playing in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
He will provide competition for Jonny Castro, who has played in his position for Celta recently this season.
Mazan’s signing is considered an exciting appointment for future years, but will also likely strengthen the squad for the remainder of this current season, and will add discipline to the defensive ranks.
The player joins fellow countryman Stanislav Lobotka at the club, who scored against England in a World Cup Qualifier last September, and has himself made 17 appearances for Celta.
Lobotka is said to have influenced Mazan’s decision to join the La Liga outfit.
Mazan will be presented to media and fans on Monday 8th January.
The capture represents more good news for Los Celestes, who are high on confidence after their victory over local rivals Deportivo, as well as their 1-1 draw against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.
Celta’s next league game is at home to Real Madrid at Balaídos this Saturday.
