Valencia have come from behind to beat Girona 2-1 at the Mestalla on Saturday afternoon.

Cristian Portu opened the scoring for the Catalan visitors after just eight minutes with a superb head to beat Los Che keeper Neto, and it looked like the visitors would come away with three points.

However, the hosts levelled just before the half hour mark when Goncalo Guedes’s effort deflected in off Girona defender Jonas Ramalho.

Marcelino’s side were able to take control of the game, and they created second half chances to win the game, with the eventual winner coming from the penalty spot.

Jose Luis Gaya was hauled down inside the area after a good attacking move and captain Dani Parejo stepped up to hammer home the winner.

The victory sees Valencia hold on to third place in the league table, keeping them six points ahead of Real Madrid in fourth.
Girona, meanwhile, sit 10th and will now prepare to face Las Palmas next weekend, whilst Valencia have Copa action against the Gran Canarian side in midweek.

Valencia (4-4-2): Neto; Vidal (Vezo 67′), Garay, Paulista, Gaya; Pereira (Maksimovic 82′), Parejo, Kondogbia, Guedes; Rodrigo, Mina (Vietto 74′)
