Las Palmas 1-2 Eibar: Visitors come from behind to winJanuary 6, 2018
Eibar scored two goals in five second half minutes as they overturned Las Palmas’ lead to snatch all three points in Gran Canaria.
Jonathan Viera’s penalty had given the home side the lead in the first half but Fabian Orellana’s debut goal followed by a header from Sergi Enrich ensured the Basques would move level on points with Villarreal in the automatic Europa League spot.
Pedro Bigas had to be replaced inside the opening half an hour by Mauricio Lemos after he picked up an injury in a blow to both himself and the team but just three minutes later his side had the chance to go in front.
Hernan Toledo was tripped in the box by Eibar centre back Anaitz Arbilla giving Viera the chance to put The Yellows in front from the spot which he did with ease, sending Marko Dmitrovic the wrong way.
Neither side could fashion any more clear cut chances in the first half with efforts on goal few and far between in the second half for the most part too before Eibar boss Jose Luis Mendilibar’s substitution made the difference.
Fabian Orellana had only been on the pitch two minutes having replaced Ivan Alejo when Jose Angel’s deep free kick was met by Charles whose touch across goal found the feet of Orellana to tap home the leveller from just three yards.
Then it was Enrich’s turn to score as the visitors went in front. Angel delivered a fantastic cross from the left hand side and Enrich got up to header the ball back across goal and went over the line via the post despite Leandro Chichizola’s best efforts to keep it out.
The win keeps Eibar in seventh but Las Palmas remain rooted to the bottom of the table with everyone directly above them still to play this weekend.
