Real Madrid’s first league game of 2018 didn’t go to plan as they were held to a draw against Celta Vigo.

Welsh winger Gareth Bale scored twice for Los Blancos in his first league start since September however, his goals weren’t enough to secure the three points for Mardid.

Celta took a surprise lead in the 33rd minute when Daniel Wass fired the home side ahead a great chipped shot went over keeper Keylor navas.

The lead didn’t last long though as Gareth Bale fired in his first goal of the season to bring Madrid level. Two minutes later Bale scored his second of the night following a pass from Isco.

In the second half Madrid had chances to extend their lead but where unable to do so with chances from Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo but ultimately they came to no avail.

Celta also had chances to level up the score with Jonny coming the closest to scoring for the home side.

The game had a big turning point twenty minutes from time when Keylor Navas fouled Iago Aspas but the Costa Rican keeper made up for his errors and saved the penalty.

However, there was nothing Navas could do to stop Maxi Gomez from scoring Celta’s second. After a costly mistake from Marcelo in the middle of the pitch lead to a counter attack primarily lead by Aspas.

In the last ten minutes Lucas Vazquez had a chance to win the match for Zinedine Zidane’s men but his shot was saved by Ruben Blanco.

Real Madrid now find themselves 16 points behind leaders Barcelona and host Numancia on Wednesday in the second leg of their Copa del Rey tie.
