Ivan Rakitic has backed his Barcelona team-mate Aleix Vidal to make a return to former club Sevilla.
The 28-year-old defender has been tipped to leave the Camp Nou this month after failing to find a starting place ahead of the likes of Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo, who also operate on the right side of Barca’s side.
Having scored in the 3-0 El Clasico win over Real Madrid before the winter break, Vidal has received plenty of interest from a number of clubs across Europe.
Italian side Inter Milan are said to have made contact with Barca over a potential bid, whilst Roma, headed by former Sevilla CEO Monchi – are also said to be keen.
Whilst Vidal’s presence at Barca is a big one, having captained the side on numerous occasions – it is thought that Ernesto Valverde is happy to sell and recoup some funds, having spent big on Ousmane Dembele last summer, and Philippe Coutinho over the weekend.
Rakitic, who played with Vidal for Sevilla back in 2014, believes the defender would make a good decision should he return to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
“If he decides to go to Sevilla then, as a team-mate and a Sevillista, I would that like very much,” he said following Barca’s 3-0 LaLiga win over Levante on Sunday.
“I wish him all the best. He already knows them very well, he is a player of the highest quality and Sevilla are among the best in Europe.”
Vidal joined Barca in 2015 from Sevilla, but was forced to spend six months on the sidelines due to the Catalan club’s transfer ban from FIFA.
Having struggled to make the first eleven, Vidal has made 25 league appearances during his time at the club.
