Good Morning and Welcome to our brief round up of the main Spanish Papers, which focus on Zinedine Zidane and Philippe Coutinho’s arrival at Barcelona.
After a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo on the return to league action following the winter break; Zidane is now under increasing pressure to turn Madrid’s season around.
The reigning La Liga champions are 16 points behind league leaders and arch rivals Barcelona and sit in fourth place, behind Atletico Madrid and Valencia.
A stumble in performance and form has also seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema struggle for goals, having just seven league goals between the duo.
Gareth Bale was the double scorer against Celta, but not even his performance could give Bernabeu officials or fans, something to cheer about.
Zidane, who is facing his first struggle as Madrid boss, told Marca that he must improve and prove the doubters wrong.
Over in Catalan media, both Sport and Mundo Deportivo focus on Coutinho’s arrival and his presentation, at which he said the move ‘was a dream come true’.
Coutinho is however, ruled out for three weeks with an injury to his right thigh, meaning he is likely to make his debut against Espanyol in the first week of February.
