Mauro Icardi to Real Madrid is imminent

Real Madrid look set to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, according to various reports in Spanish and Italian media.

Madrid are not firing on all cylinders so far this season, seemingly lacking in fire power up front after seeing Karim Benzema score just four goals in all competitions.

Boss Zinedine Zidane stayed loyal to the French striker last summer, allowing Alvaro Morata to leave for English club Chelsea but after seeing the former Lyon striker struggle – attention has moved elsewhere.

With current reports suggesting Madrid have already met the £99 million release clause in Icardi’s contract and that the Argentine international has already passed a medical; it now just seems a matter of time before an announcement is made.

Icardi has been in superb form this season, netting 18 goals in all competitions, which has gained him interest from a number of top European clubs.

Zidane’s desire to bring in the striker could see Benzema shifted out of the club, having gained interest from Premier League side Arsenal in recent times.

The potential move sees Madrid react to Barcelona’s big money move for Philippe Coutinho, but they will be hoping Icardi can also help them make up the massive 16 point difference between themselves and the league leaders.
