Ruben Duarte was sent off for Alaves but the home side still secured all three points over Sevilla on Sunday afternoon.
It’s fair to say Vincenzo Montella was a surprise appointment by Sevilla, following the sacking of Eduardo Berizzo last month.
And, the Italian coach is finding his first moments as head coach tricky.
Approaching Sunday’s afternoon kick off against Alaves, the Andalusian visitors were the favourites but a goal from Manu Garcia shortly after the half time break ensured the result would go against presumptions.
Whilst the visitors had the more possession in the game, chances for the likes of Wissam Ben Yedder and Nolito would fail to break the deadlock.
The game ended 0-0 at the break, before Garcia would open the scoring to give his side the lead.
The game would then see a dismissal as Ruben Duarte was given his marching orders.
However, the extra-man advantage would not help Sevilla get back in the game, and the home team held on for an impressive three points.
The win sees Alaves move clear of the relegation zone and more notably Deportivo La Coruna in 18th, whilst Sevilla remain in sixth place behind Villarreal and have not won a league game since the 2nd of December.
