UEFA sanction Athletic Club for Spartak Moscow clashes

UEFA have sanctioned Athletic Club for fan clashes during the Europa League clash with Spartak Moscow last season. European football’s governing body has decided, in relation to the incidents surrounding the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 played against FC Spartak Moskow, to impose a fine of 40,000 euros on the La Liga club. Police officer dies during Bilbao clashes

A police officer suffered heart failure as fans from Athletic Club and Spartak Moscow clashed outside the San Mames on Thursday evening. Inocencio Alonso Garcia suffered a heart attack whilst on duty during the violent clashes, which saw more than 500 officers deployed for the Europa League second leg. Five arrests were made as groups of Russian fans carrying weapons, clashed with home supporters, leading to Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy condemning the action.
